Handcart Half Marathon

Our half marathon course is a great course! It’s not your typical “downhill canyon” Utah course, but we think that’s what makes it great! It’s mostly flat, with a few slight inclines. (Total gain: 187 ft / Total descent: 161 ft). You’ll get to head out to the legacy trail for about 5 miles of the half and you’ll head through the beautiful city streets of Farmington, Centerville and Bountiful! The race starts at 6:00am so you can beat the heat of July!

  • There is an option of a 5:30am start time that you may select at time of registration. If you early start, you WILL NOT be eligible for overall and division prizes or awards.
  • Porta-potties, water and first aid stations be provided.

Frontier 5K

This is the course we use for all of our 5K races! If you’ve run with us before, it’s fairly easy…. All right hand turns and pretty flat! There will be one aid station about ½ way through which will provide water, Gatorade and first aid to any in need. It is located half way through the race at Porter Lane (1600 N) and Main Street. We do not close any roads for our races, please be safe and know the course!

Pioneer Pete 1K

For the 1K, it’s also all right turns! Pioneer Pete will lead the way for all 1K runners. The 1K starts in the parking lot behind our facility. Look for a large sign, that says “1K START” which will be right near the bowery’s north end. The route goes around our facility and ends back in the same parking lot it started in. We ask that all 1K racers stay on the sidewalk, know where to go (the course), and have an adult accompany them if they are under 5 years old. All 1K racers should pay extra close attention to our parking lot entrances! We have volunteers staffed there to direct traffic, but racers need to be aware of their surroundings and cars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What does my registration include?
A: Registration includes a finishers medal, shirt, Race bag and swag from our sponsors.

Q:Why does pricing get more expensive closer to race date?
A: Our vendors give us price breaks when we order with bigger lead times, and short orders cost more per unit. We charge more for registrations closer to race date because it costs us more to provide the promised swag.

Q:What would you do, should the race get cancelled?
A: Should the race be unavailable in a traditional format, we will offer it in a virtual format.

Q:When does registration close?
A:Registration for our Race closes on Thursday July 20 at 11:59 PM. We do offer race day registration, which is available at packet pick-up times ONLY! Keep in mind prices do increase as the race gets closer – don’t procrastinate!

Q: When is packet pick-up?
A: Packet pick-up will be Friday July 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM or Saturday (day of race) July 22 from 5:00 AM – 6:30 AM.  It will be located in the Junior High school gym, connected to our facility. (550 N 200 W, Bountiful, Utah 84010)

Q: Can I still pick up my packet (and shirt!) if I choose not to race?
A: Yes! It will be available for you to pick up for 1 week after the race. After that, it will no longer be available for pick up.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Something to RUN in! We won’t cancel our race: rain, snow or shine! Dress for the weather! The last couple years we’ve had the sun grace us on race day. Check the weather and be prepared for anything!

Q: How early do I need to be here on race day?
A: If you did not pick up your packet the night before, come EARLY! Plan for lines, we usually have about 1,000 runners run this race. The shortest lines are at the beginning of packet pick-up which opens at 5am on race day. You’ll need to plan to get parked in a busy parking lot, pick up your packet, get warmed up, and to the starting line before 6:00am (Half Marathon), 7:00am 5K, 7:45am 1K.

Q: Where should I park on race day?
A: Our facility parking lot (550 N 200 W, Bountiful, Utah) is where the majority of racers will park. The parking lot on 400 N in the back of our facility will be closed as the finish area for racers. Meadowbrook Elementary is our offsite parking, it is located at 700 N 325 W, Bountiful, Utah 84010. Street parking is allowed in most areas nearby the facility as well.

Q: Can I change race distances?
A: Yes. This can be done on active.com before the race or in person for a $5.00 fee. If you are increasing distance, you will also be charged the difference in race cost in addition to the $5.00 fee. If you choose to change on race day, there will be a difference in race cost if you’re increasing distance.

Q: Can I exchange my shirt size if it’s the wrong size?
A: Unfortunately we order based on what you selected when you registered. We cannot exchange your shirt size.

Q: What kind of shirt will I get?
A: We provide a tech shirt! It is gender specific and is one reason people like our race! So you know, they do tend to run a little small, so ladies… if you’re unsure, go one size up.<

Q: What are the awards?
A: All finishers will receive a custom finisher medal for finishing the race! Overall winners (1st – 3rd, Male and Female), will receive a 7″ Cowbell and division winners recieve a 4″ cowbell.

Q: What if I leave before the award ceremony and I’ve placed in overall or age division awards?
A: We will hold your award at the front desk of our facility for 1 week and you’re welcome to come and pick it up. After that point, it will be unavailable for pick up.

Q: Are results posted? When and where?
A: We post live results to: www.itsyourrace.com . They are preliminary live. We work through a couple glitches and have final results posted within 24 hours to the same site (www.itsyourrace.com) as well as the race website (www.southdavisraces.com), the facility website (www.southdavisrecreation.com), and our race series Facebook page (www.facebook.com/southdavisraces) . Phew. We’ve got a lot of sites to post to.

Q: Can I switch my entry to a friend or family member if I’m injured?
A: Sure! This will also be subject to a $5.00 fee. You’ll need to contact us at races@southdavisrecreation.com at least 48 hours in advance of race day!

Q: Can I get a refund if I change my plans or I’m injured?
A: Sorry! No refunds on race registrations!

Q: Can man’s best friend (aka my dog or pet) run with me?
A: Sure! Under 2 conditions… It must be on a leash and you must start in the back of the starting group at the starting line.

Q: Can I run with a stroller?
A: We love families! So absolutely! Again, 2 conditions… You must start in the back of the starting group at the starting line and your child must be on a … wait. Just the one condition, start in the back of the starting group.

Q: Are wheelchairs allowed?
A: You bet! There is handicap accessible parking and facilities.

Q: Is this race timed?
A: Yes! We provide chip timing at both the start and finish of the Half and 5K with our Jaguar timing system. We gun start/chip finish for the 1K. The chip will be attached to the back of your individual bib number that you will receive in your packet at packet pick-up. You must wear your bib on the front of your body on the outermost layer of clothing for accurate results. If you are wearing your bib incorrectly, you may not be eligible for awards.
